Quality

William Halstead & Co. have developed an enviable, world-wide reputation for their commitment to providing customers with a high quality product. Rigorous controls at all stages of production ensure that a customers order is delivered on time and to specified standards. Such attention is made easier by the fact that William Halstead & Co. continue to weave all their cloth at Stanley Mills, where the cumulative expertise and experience of generations is applied throughout the mill and to every piece woven.

In addition to this practice the company is fully committed to working within established guidelines concerning the accuracy of cloth content and description.

The grading of natural fibres in a cloth is generally defined by micron value, which in turn translate into more recognisable descriptive wording in sales and marketing of the cloth, as illustrated by the selvedge examples above and the garment labels below. These guidelines have been established by the leading Trade Associations for the industry, such as the National Wool Textile Export Corporation (NWTEC) Selvedge Code of Conduct for Wool & The International Mohair Association (IMA) Micron values for Mohair.

Unfortunately, cheating on these descriptions and falsifying the content of qualities is widely practised within the cloth industry, creating the illusion that a cloth is of a finer grade than in actuality. This misinformation is of course, passed through the supply chain to the end user.

William Halstead & Co. confirm that all their qualities are accurately described by micron and content and conform with both the NWTEC and IMA guidelines.
